Frenchman Pierre Lallement patented The Boneshaker, as this early bicycle was affectionally called, in 1866. Like a children's trike, it had the pedals attached to the front hub, a heavy iron frame and the wood & iron wheels that gave the arcane two-wheeler its nickname.
